I’m 19 turning 20 soon, any advice for these roaring twenties? Almost everyone I know said it was the worst years of their life… so I’m kinda hoping for some other input, lol. And also advice on how to not feel like I wasted my teen years and I missed out on being young and stress free 🥲 thank you thank you, adore your work, mwah
In your twenties, you should seek to know yourself, down to the very nitty gritty of you. You should embrace both your strengths and your flaws, and being able to talk about them. You should be able to recognise them in action, and route the waters accordingly. You should, first and foremost, try to make the good stuff great, and manage the bad stuff so it's a small enough part of you to fit into the post-script. It's there; but it comes up from time to time. It's there; but it's not the main part of you.
You didn't waste your teen years. You were growing up, baby. Modern media hyperfetishises extreme youth; it has been strictly targeted at making sure you feel old by the time you're 25. They're dirty fucking liars; they benefit from your anxiety and insecurity. Don't be conned: you're better than that. A word to the wise: if you peaked at 20, that's desperately sad. You should rise, instead, like a firework; never to fall, simply to go up and up and up, and BANG! in a burst of fire and fantasticals in your final moment. In other words? You're peaking on your deathbed, baby. You're going to rise.
Learn to apologise. No, listen: learn to apologise. Learn to reflect on your failings. Learn to swallow the shame and the guilt and crawl through treacle to own up to it. Learn to look back on your worst moments, and be sincere in your remorse, and look on how to make yourself better after. How many grown adults do you know who really, truly apologise? And how many do you know who deny, or accuse, or begrudge? 'nuff said.
Grow. Take every and any opportunity for growth. Like the firework, yes? Rise!
Change is good. Embrace it. Learn to be able to say "I used to think XYZ, but now I know better."
Research a bunch of non-biased news apps from around the world; also news apps which align strictly against your own worldview. Do not shield yourself from 'spin', or alternative opinions, or straight up disinformation. For example, I identify as an Anarcho-Socialist/Left-wing Libertarian. Do I also have extremely Right Wing news sources on my phone? You fucking bet I do. It is incredible how much you can glean from national and world events, all on how different news sources have spun the same event.
Stay up to date with global and national news. You will find yourself altogether worldlier, far less naive and far less likely to be mugged off by people, news and politics.
Kindness is almost always the correct first response.
Empathy does not mean 'putting yourself in someone else's shoes'. Empathy is a far, far deeper beast than this.
Plenty of people don't have your best interests at heart; become wiser. Learn to know when to distance yourself from those who seek to break you.
Tumblr media
And from @mrhaitch, who has effortlessly sounded like Nanami Kento once again...
Don't assume that where you are now, is where you will always be. You may leave some paths behind for others; this does not mean that you've failed on the first path. It means that the path isn't right for you now, and in this moment. Embrace those opportunities for change and variation.
Tumblr media
And...
...enjoy yourself. I am far, far happier aged 31 than I was aged 21.
All my love, baby,
And remember:
Tumblr media
Love,
-- Haitch xxx

In your personal opinion, how old would you say the kids are from oldest to youngest? I recently got the warped beyond recognition pdf and been reading it on and off the past few days. They all seem to be in the same general range, but imo Sonia feels like the oldest based on stuff in the module and just, general vibes. The other kids feel more vague though and I'm curious on your opinion :)
-🎇
The vagueness is likely on purpose, to allow Wardens to put their own spin on things and choose how they'd like the test subjects to act and feel. If Sonia reads to you as the eldest of the six, then that's what you should go with!
Admittedly by this point in our campaign, we've been with them for about 2-3 years now, so they've grown quite a bit. :) But, strictly speaking by the information given by the module, I'll give my input.
Yu reads to me as one of the eldest, but that's likely a result of the circumstances she's been under. She strikes me as someone who was forced to grow up and mature much faster than she should have. Most of the fear and panic she invokes comes from the sheer physical state she's found in (her body completely turning inside out over and over again), and the damage she does to others is accidental. She isn't lashing out like the others, she just doesn't know what's happening and she can't control it. In our campaign, she's grown to be very independent and quiet. She has no desire to come with us on spacing trips or jobs, she'd much rather stay on station and dedicate herself to her religious worship. We're letting her do that, of course. Recovery looks different for everyone, and what's important is that she has the choice to do what she wants.
Jonesy is described matter-of-factly to be "the smallest and youngest" by Paradiso (developer of WBR) in [this Making Of video they've posted here.] In the book, Jonesy's described to be wearing an "ill-fitting jumpsuit" which suggests something to the effect of "the smallest size jumpsuit is still baggy on him". I however chose to read this line as "Jonesy might be very tall for his age, but he is very thin and fragile. Therefore any clothes that fit his length end up being very wide on him." Cray (our Warden) liked the second option a lot :) I also think a bit of his younger, child-like qualities comes through with his abilities. His entire thing is about imagining things that aren't really there. Imaginary friends, maladaptive daydreaming, finding comfort in escapism. That all strikes me as someone who is still depending on their creativity and imagination to help them through any hardships they face.
The other four are a bit more up in the air. Cray said that the whole lot of them were anywhere between 16 to 18 when we first encountered them, but exact ages were never settled on.
They all admittedly have qualities that can be described as immature; Evander basing his whole persona on action movies he's watched, Miriam lashing out simply because she's scared, Billy searching for praise and affirmations from the scientists during his testing, Sonia's playfully dark sense of humor... But you could also lean more into other qualities to make them seem more mature. Both Evander and Sonia have years of military training; Miriam has proved to be very strong, very dangerous and capable of horrible violence; and Billy (despite his ego) is extremely well-read and intelligent!!
It's really up to the Warden and the players to help figure out their personalities, and how far you'd like to lean into their different qualities to help get that across.

The next chapter of "If Love Is The Answer, You're Home" is slowly but surely coming along. It went through quite a few rewrites and scraped ideas, but it's about ¾ of the way done now and it's going to probably be about 5k words.
For now, here's a snippet for y'all to get hyped!
“Shit, shit, shit!” Timmy muttered as he hurriedly shoved dirty clothes under throw pillows.
Tonight was his first date with Peri, and he didn’t exactly want the other man to see how he lived. It’s not like Timmy was planning to invite Peri in — he didn’t have a chance of getting that lucky tonight — so as long as the filth and grime was out of sight, Timmy figured it would be fine.
Once the dirty laundry was properly out of sight, Timmy moved on to the stacks of papers on his coffee table. He scooped them into his arms haphazardly, causing half of them to spill onto the floor. Timmy sighed and bent down to collect the wrinkled papers. It was quick work until he noticed how many of them were bills... And how many more of them were job rejection letters. And how most of them were about his failed comic pitches.
His kitchen counter was clear, surprisingly, so he decided to stash his tower of rejection there for the night. Like most everything else, Timmy would deal with that tomorrow.
Tonight was about Peri.
“When was the last time I had a date?” Timmy chuckled and leaned against the sink. “Like, a real date?” He stopped, noting how high the stack of dishes in the sink had gotten. “Speaking of last times…” Timmy murmured, running a hand through his hair.
The rest of his apartment was no better. Timmy had to admit it, he was a bit of a slob. That had always been the case. From the ages of about eleven to eighteen, however, he had… something that motivated him to clean up after himself. Not that he could remember what it was.
He shook his head to clear his thoughts. “I’ll… I’ll clean the place this week! No problem-o! I’m just a little behind on my spring-cleaning, that’s all.” Timmy tried to reassure himself, but a nagging feeling of guilt tugged at his mind. He tapped his fingers against the counter top. “Maybe I’ll download one of those—” He scratched his head, trying to think of the word. “…Organizer apps. That might help.” Timmy took a deep breath and let his head fall back. “It’s gonna be okay, Turner. You’ve got a date with the hottest, funniest, nicest guy on the planet. Things are already starting to look up,” he reassured himself.
And speak of the devil, no sooner had he lapsed back into silence than Timmy heard a knock on his front door. A grin inched its way across his face.
He practically skipped over to the front door. Out of habit, Timmy peered through the peephole. Seeing Peri standing there on his doorstep made his heart soar.
There was a mirror hanging over the little table where Timmy kept his keys and his wallet. He gazed at his reflection, appraising his appearance. His hair was suitably messy, his sweater wasn't stained, and his grin was anxious, but also excited. Timmy was so, so excited.
He rolled his neck and shook out his limbs. “Let’s do this,” he muttered, and Timmy opened the door.

I wanted to say i really enjoy seeing all your welsh mythology posts. I’m not really that knowledgeable and where i live I don’t have any acess to the tales so i’m really glad i found you because i’m learning so much. I haven’t really been reblogging as much as i’d like because i don’t really know if that’s weird because if i did it’d be so much since i really like what you post, but i just wanted to let you know that i really appreciate what you do. It’s really nice to have someone with a huge wealth of knowledge on my feed all the time. I think i only have like one other person that i’d reblog like almost everything i’d see on my feed so that means i think you’re super cool :)
Omg!!!!! This is so lovely to hear (and read!!!) I'm so glad you love my posts because I love doing them! Also if u need/want access might I humbly suggest @queer-ragnelle 's Arthuriana preservation project because there are many pdf's of the Mabinogion on there. (I recommend Sioned Davies' translation as it's the most accurate and has lots of footnotes!!)
And, honestly, pls don't ever feel it's weird to reboot my posts. It isn't at all!!! I love people reblogging my posts because I adore hearing their opinions or just that they liked them. Hearing and reading things like ur message always makes me so happy because it makes me realise I am doing something worthwhile, I guess. It's sort of difficult for me to believe I am sometimes, so yeah!

uhm sorry what is canon mates? I came across this browsing tags...
Canon mates are people that share a source with you, known in fictionkin communities as well as plural communities! For example, person A is a fictionkin of Neville Longbottom from Harry Potter (disrespectfully, fuck J.K. Rowling), and person B is a fictionkin of Luna Lovegood from the same piece of media, Harry Potter. That would make them canonmates (sharing a canon or media). If you don't know what fictionkins are, I'd be happy to explain further. Hope this explained sufficiently! ^^

Heyyy Fizz, I bought the Mothership deluxe set and I managed to get a few of my friends interested in possibly playing a game! I'm still waiting on it to be delivered, and one of my friends asked me about the Lore and the World of Mothership. I don't really know how else to explain it other than dystopia corpo hell where everyone is expendable so I'm wondering how you'd personally describe it, since you've played more than me (who has played none)
🎇
Well, I think the first thing I'll say is that Mothership is labeled as like. Sci-fi Horror. It handles uncomfortable topics, and in the spirit of tabletop roleplay, theater of the mind, etc., you are in the very vulnerable position that YOU are the one undergoing and interacting with the uncomfortable topics. So be sure that everyone at the table is totally okay with anything that might happen within the game! All Mothership modules come with content warnings, so communicate well with your table about those kinds of things.
Secondly. I think the Mothership books go into exactly the kinds of things that have inspired the core box. I believe it mentions things like Alien, The Expanse, and 2001: A Space Odyssey by name. So, those types of media are a good starting point for the tone and parts of the setting. Far future, corporations rule everything and care not for people that do not move the machine along, and some horrible conflict (monster or otherwise) ruins everyone's days. Do not follow my lead and get attached to your character because one wrong encounter can be their last. I've heard that the average life-span of a Mothership player character is about four sessions.
And, Mothership can be whatever you want it to be. There are countless community-made modules, expansions, settings, monsters, npcs, entire worlds for you to pick up, cut up, and make your own.
Sci-fi is a VAST genre that can be nearly anything. If aliens and existential horror aren't exactly your type of thing, there are tons of other angles to approach Mothership. [Dinoplex: Cataclysm] is Jurassic Park themed, [The Stone Flesh Gift] has similar vibes to The Mystery Flesh Pit, and (the one we started with) [Warped Beyond Recognition] includes rules to warp your own player characters with insane psychic abilities.
Really, your only limits are your own imaginations, I'd think.
I think I'll leave you with exactly why I like Mothership;
At it's core, I believe that Mothership is the perfect game about people. Every player character is Joe Schmo.
Maybe you're a scientist studying how plant life survives in zero-g, maybe you're a marine who joined the force because they could not afford proper schooling, maybe you're a teamster who does nothing but ferry crates full of dried tasteless food across the system, maybe you're an android whose only purpose in life is to sell bolts and rivets to the everyman.
Everyone has a very simple, very mundane, very relatable day-to-day life. Until, of course, the absolute worst day of your life rolls around.
And that's where your story begins.
Enjoy!!!

EXCUSE ME SIR!! i have found myself in a situation in which i hafta use top-ish tendencies on someone to get her to finish something- despite being a HUGE bottom. i've already recorded a clicker noise and i'm having her ask for permission to listen to it every now and then, and i'm calling her a good girl, but what else could i do that'd be effective? i want to keep her focused and still mess with her a bit!
- @dogfag-sideblag
p.s. is 🎇 anon taken?
gmorning puppy! that is quite the situation indeed. what are you trying to get her to finish for you? i know how much of a bottom you are, i see you in my notifs, i’d be surprised if there was a single gram of top in that cute puppybrain of yours!! i personally love clicker training (i keep a clicker on my carabiner with my house keys & just the sight of it hanging off my wallet chain gets my puppy completely flustered) there’s a clicker training guide i reblogged a while back, if i see it again i’ll send it to you. having her ask for permission is always a good way to assert power into your dynamic. asides from calling her a good girl, think of other praise buzzwords or catchphrases you particulairly enjoy, and try them out on her. you have an advantage being a bottom because you know what you want to hear!! to keep her focused i’d reccomend goal-based tasks that can be associated with rewards (here’s where the clicker comes in) tease her, praise her lots, but make her work for it!
p.s. you can absolutely be 🎇 anon xoxo
